FARM ACCIDENTS
Agriculture is one of the two most dangerous industries in the United States. In Nebraska alone, over the 31 year period from 1969 to July 2000, 1,080 Nebraskans died in farm accidents, an average of 34.8 deaths per those years. Of all farm accidents, the tractor has accounted for the most deaths and injuries. Whether suffocation, crushing injuries, or dismemberment, these statistics verify that farming is an extremely hazardous occupation.
Many Nebraska farmers have received injuries over the years, yet have sought no compensation for those injuries. Changes in the insurance industry, changes in our legal system, and changes in public perception have caused the realization that farmers are often not responsible for these injuries and should not bear the financial burden which farm accidents cause.
Farm injuries frequently involve power take-offs, tractor roll-overs, chemical burns, slow-moving vehicle injuries, or grain handling equipment. It is well-known that Nebraska farmers operate and maintain heavy duty equipment and machinery, which by its nature can be extremely hazardous. Nebraska farmers are also involved in use of many hazardous chemicals.
Located in central Nebraska, the law firm of Parker, Grossart, Bahensky, Beucke & Odgaard is in the middle of midwest farming communities. Our firm is well aware of the difficulties of a our farmers and the vital role they play in the economy. Farm accidents happen, but when they do, we are available for consultation to determine if a compensable claim exists, to pursue possible sources of recovery, and to maximize recovery for serious accidents that can limit or eliminate a farmer's potential to earn income.
Such cases are generally taken on a contingency basis in which the firm does not charge a fee unless recovery is obtained.
